Hike in the mountains. Enjoy the week long Moors and Christian festival in Altea last week of September and the fiesta in February in the village Altea la Vella with fireworks, marching bands and dancing, How do you get 500 people in a village of 600 at night in a solemn, Christian parade, carrying the relics and the crucifix from the 17th century church around the cobbled and steep streets.
For those who want to shop there are many nice stores in Altea itself and it is not far to the large shopping area at Finestrat. Benidorm has the "Palace" which rivals the Lido in Paris - and several incredible theme parks and amusement parks for the young and young at heart!
Villa Gadea in on the beach but still close to the historic town of Altea. It is for Spain and unusually green area, with the high Bernia mountains feeding the landscape. The almond trees bloom in the beginning of February, Spring comes early and summar is cooled by light sea breezes. You can visit the fish markets in the ports of Calpe and Altea. Next door in Albir the cliffs dropp 300 m into the Mediterranean from the walk to the light house. Notice the terracing, which is everywhere - no one rally seems knows how old they are - from the times of the Mores or perhaps much older - from another age where people struggled for centuries to live on the steep hills.
There is an easy walk from Albir to the lighthouse at the end of this mountian range - or do the tough hike to the top.
Walk along the waterfront in Altea - enjoy the views, the tapas with Cervecas or local wine.
In the Altea harbor the fishing boats come late afternoon and their colourful catches are quickly auctioned off to the local restaurants.
Five minutes walk to the little port at Porto Senso where there also is a popular restaurant at the end of the pier. Great snorkeling right after the pier where you also can rent paddle boats and water scooters.

Altea – the beautiful, historic town shaded by the majestic Bernia mountains. Not only lots to see and do - it is also an ideal location for good and varied golf experiences! Within less than an hours drive there are about a dozen golf courses – from easy courses for new golfers to world class!
Living close to Altea Golf is of course a privilege. A varied and well kept golf course, with some good challenges and a great mix of beautiful fairways and vistas. Initially a nine hole course, you can now play 18 holes by going a second round from different tees. And with a great price for 18 holes, it is probably one of the best deals for a good golf course in the Alicante region. The next closest club is in Benidorm about 15 minutes away. The Melia Villaitana Golf Club features two courses: The Levante course has been called “world class” by visiting pros. It has exceptional vistas, great challenges to try for “short cuts” to the greens, but the wide fairways are also appealing to the more average golfer. If you want a “quick and fun” warm up – try the Poniente Executive course. A par 3 and par 4 course you can play in three hours or less. A buggy is necessary and included in the green fee, as the course is extremely hilly! Both courses are Jack Nicklaus design and are of fairly recent date. For both these courses call +34 96 681 3013. For beginners or as a warm up there is also in Benidorm the Las Rejas Open Club. Located almost down town, between the Poniente beach and the N332 road, it can provide good practice and fun for all on a 9 hole courses. Go around twice for 18 holes – and for 15 € you can actually spend all day there! No advance booking – you normally get a tee time within 20 minutes. Driving range and teaching. A bit tricky to find – drive down towards the Poniente Beach from the A7 or n-332 and turn left on Avenida Cuba. Look for the blue sign Pierre et Vacances / Poniente Golf Club. Going a bit further away, in Alicante itself there are several courses. The closest to Altea is the Bonalba Golf Resort at Mutxamel, Alicante less than half an hour from Altea. Going north from Altea you first come to Golf Ifach, located at Benissa, just before Moraira. You drive through Calpe and along a winding road next to the sea, reminiscent of beautiful passages along the French Riviera! The course is a pay-and-play course, open also for newer players. Driving further north toward Denia you find the la Sella Golf Resort. A beautiful location and very nice course. If you are looking for a pleasant and a bit luxurious setting, this is it.
